January 23 – The document trail is starting to sound more and more like a punchline at this point, but over the weekend, the Federal Bureau of Investigations and Department of Justice spent 13 hours searching President Joe Biden’s Delaware home where more classified documents were discovered.
Prior to this, Biden’s attorneys had said they were confident no more documents would be found. But lo and behold more were uncovered on Saturday.
Some of the documents found over the weekend came from Biden’s time as a United States Senator, which obviously could go back for decades.
It still hasn’t been announced what the documents are other than they are classified or have classified markings. Some personal handwritten notes were also found during the search.
Attorney Clint Barkdoll said, “These are not classified, but yet they must have found something of interest in them to have seized those documents. Hard to say where this goes.”
A special prosecutor is involved in the case.
Biden will deliver a State of the Union address on February 7. Some are speculating whether he might announce a run for president in 2024 after that.
Barkdoll said, “You have to think with all of this news coming out some people around him must be trying to persuade him not to run. Some key Democrats on the Sunday shows this week were very critical of Biden. I think this thing is a growing problem for him and I would not be surprised if it affects his decision on timing, if he announces at all that he’s running for reelection.”
In fact, Senator Joe Manchin was one of the interviews on Sunday and he questioned Biden’s handling of this classified material. He was particularly critical of Biden’s statements when classified documents were found in former president Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago home.
Michele Jansen of NewsTalk 103.7FM pointed out, “And yet Jim Clyburn came out and said, and this is the guy who gets credited for getting Biden across the finish line, for getting him South Carolina flipped his way in the election in 2020, he’s saying don’t you dare primary him, Democrats. That would be a huge mistake.”
Clyburn is apparently convinced Biden will run in 2024.
Barkdoll noted, “The Democrats have some challenges here because if Biden is out, there are no obvious choices for who would step in.”
