20 June 2022- A Greene Township man is behind bars today after allegedly threatening to kill his wife and child with a handgun. Matthew L Furman is in jail today on $5,000 bail and is charged with felony third degree endangering the welfare of a child, two counts of misdemeanor first degree terroristic threats, two counts of misdemeanor second degree simple assault, and two counts of misdemeanor third degree harassment.

Pennsylvania State Police arrived at a home in Greene Township at about 5:30pm on June 17 to reports of a heavily intoxicated man who may be in possession of a firearm. That man, Matthew L Furman, was taken into custody by Troopers and was visibly intoxicated. After getting Furman, PSP then found a .357 Smith & Wesson revolver inside the home in Furman’s bedroom.

After making contact with the victim, she related that she heard her husband start yelling in the living room, mumbling things as he walked towards the bedroom. Shortly after, Furman then allegedly came into the kitchen with a silver revolver, pointed it at her and threatened to kill her and a child. Fearing for her life, the victim left and called 911. Police then tried to talk with the young victim but were unable to, as they had witnessed the incident in the home.

After being read his Miranda Rights, Furman allegedly told law enforcement that he didn’t threaten anyone and that the gun was not loaded. Sobriety tests were conducted and Furman was transported to Chambersburg Hospital due to being so highly intoxicated.

Furman failed to post his bail of $5,000 set by Magisterial Judge Kristin Nicklas and is currently in Franklin County Jail. His preliminary hearing is set for June 28.
