29 August 2023-It seems an extremely dangerous chase Adams County and Franklin County lines started because the driver didn’t have insurance on his vehicle. Owen Patrick McBrien is free on an unsecured bail today of $5,000 after being charged with felony fleeing an officer, misdemeanor suspicion of DUI, and numerous traffic violations including exceeding the speed limit by 65 miles per hour.
Just before 3am on August 14th, Pennsylvania State Police Troopers from the Chambersburg Barracks were called to assist in a vehicle pursuit near Rocky Mountain Road in Greene Township. Initial Troopers from PSP-Gettysburg had lost sight of a fleeing vehicle that was traveling on that road.
Troopers from the Chambersburg Barracks were able to track down the vehicle, a gray Ford Fusion travelling westbound on Lincoln Way East. After swinging around and following the car, Troopers recorded their speeds in excess of 120mph in the posted 55mph zone. The Fusion continued at high speeds, crossing the double yellow lines and continuing at a high speed around curves in the roadway.
Troopers continued the chase onto Anthony Highway going southbound. Multiple other Troopers were able to deploy a set of spike strips at the intersection of Anthony Highway and Month Alto Road and eventually bring the vehicle to a stop, ending the chase.
Police took the driver, identified as Owen McBrien, into custody shortly after. He was the only person found in the car at that time. Interviewed on scene, McBrien allegedly told police he fled from them because he did not have valid insurance on the vehicle. Additionally, he allegedly admitted to smoking marijuana from his vape pen prior to driving. McBrien was transported to Chambersburg Hospital for a blood draw.
Owen McBrien is free on an unsecured bail of $5,000. His preliminary hearing is set for September 12th.
