Greencastle man charged with causing thousands of dollars in damage by throwing rocks at cars on I-81

03 July 2024- Half a dozen charges are being levied against a 23 year old Greencastle man after he allegedly threw rocks at multiple vehicles on I-81 this week. Joshua Aaron Shelton has been charged with felony criminal mischief damaging property, misdemeanor propelling missiles into occupied vehicles, three misdemeanor counts of reckless endangerment, and misdemeanor corruption of minors. Shelton is behind bars in Franklin County on $5,000 bail.

Pennsylvania State Police were called to the overpass of I-81 in Antrim Township in State Line for a report of juveniles throwing rocks off the bridge just around 2am on July 2nd. When Troopers arrived, they initially met with Joshua Shelton on the bridge.

Troopers say that Shelton had rocks on the bridge and on the roadway/shoulder of I-81SB nearby. Maryland State Police contacted PSP shortly after, with three victims being recorded as have driven through the area where Shelton was found. All of those victims had significant damages to their windshields, hoods, and roofs of their vehicles.

Shelton was interviewed at PSP Chambersburg around 3am. During the interview Shelton allegedly admitted to throwing a rock as well as smoking marijuana with his friend, a 14 year old prior to going to the overpass.

In total, PSP say that three people had their vehicles hit by Shelton and the juvenile, causing at least $5,000 worth of damage.

Joshua Shelton is behind bars on $5,000 bail.
