Get ready for a test of the emergency notification system on your cell phone

August 30 – Mark your calendars for October 4. That is when the Federal Emergency Management Agency will be testing the emergency notification system.

It will be at 2:30 p.m.

Attorney Clint Barkdoll said, “Every cell phone in America is going to be given a test emergency notification. It’s going to be a special signal and message that comes to your phone.”

It will also likely happen at every television and radio station in the county, too.

Barkdoll said, “FEMA is saying they want better technology and rollouts for a national emergency notification if it’s ever needed.”

Pat Ryan of NewsTalk 103.7FM said, “I got the paperwork on that sitting on the desk. Fully aware of the test and we are prepared, as we were the last time they did this. I don’t think the last time that they did this was as successful as they wanted it to be. We participated in it as a radio company successfully.”

Barkdoll said, “You are correct and that’s one of the reasons they want to try to reboot this on the TV and radio angle. One other piece on the cell phone angle. If you’re somebody that has ear phones or air pods all day, make sure on October 4 at 2:30 you have those out of your ears. We’ve seen some of those cases where someone got an Amber Alert on their phone and it actually caused ear damage because they had their air pods turned up at a high volume. It’s going to be some kind of a unique signal, a sound that this thing is going to make, but the air pod and ear issue is a concern.”
