16 November 2022- The last Saturday before Thanksgiving is that time of year for Christmas Parades across Franklin County. With many spectators, bands, floats, and others hitting all in one day it is important to get a clear picture of events.
First parade is in Greencastle starting at 9:21am. The parade originates on Ridge Ave before turning West on Baltimore Street to the Square before turning South on Carlisle Street to the American Legion Grounds. Before Saturday’s festivities, however, is the tree lighting at 7pm Friday in the Square. Music from the G-A School band and Chorus will be around the Square so make sure to stop by!
Second in the day is Waynesboro. Parade begins at 2:00pm at Cumberland Valley Avenue and Main Street before turning onto Clayton Avenue. The parade then turns onto E Third Street to heading towards Waynesboro High School before breaking up at the school.
Finally, Chambersburg’s parade will be the nightcap. Roads will be closed by 5pm, as well as a few other streets in the vicinity of N Second St at E King St will close at 4 pm due to the staging of the parade participants. All westbound traffic on Lincoln Way East (Route 30 West) will be detoured onto Third St. All eastbound traffic on W. Loudon St (Route 30 East) will be detoured onto Cedar St. All southbound traffic on Philadelphia Ave (Route 11 South) will be detoured onto W. Commerce St and all northbound traffic on S. Second St (Route 11 North) will be detoured onto E Liberty St. Motorists who are not attending the parade should avoid these areas as significant delays are expected. The parade itself will begin at 6pm.
