Franklin Co. PSP Roundup: Chase down I-81 in a U-Haul, ice cream theft, and assaults of nurses

13 July 2023- Pennsylvania State Police announce the arrest of a Shippensburg woman on July 3rd for DUI. Troopers pulled over Samantha Joyce Gries around 1pm on I81SB for a traffic stop. Police subsequently arrested her during the stop for driving under the influence of marijauana.


Troopers haven’t released the name of a man arrested in a single vehicle crash in St Thomas around 4pm on July 4th, but have said that he will be charged with DUI. Pennsylvania State Police arrived at the intersection of Jack Road and Shields Road to find a 2018 Ford F-150XLT disabled. The driver, a 20 year old St Thomas man, was subsequently arrested, with charges coming eventually from PSP-Chambersburg.


A Fayetteville man is looking at DUI charges after a July 2nd crash around 10pm in Greene Township. Police say that Kermit Evans, 51, of Fayetteville was driving a 2013 Ford around Mount Pleasant Road and Hafer Road when he drifted into a field and crashed. Charges were filed through MDJ 39-3-04.


Pennsylvania State Police do not have anyone publicly arrested as of yet, but say they are investigating an identity theft case out of St Thomas Township. Police were dispatched around 10:40am on June 28th to Amsley Drive as a woman was found to have a credit card opened in her name without her authorization. Troopers continue to investigate.


Pennsylvania State Police were called to the Roxbury Treatment Center around 7:30am on June 27th for a reported assault against nurses. When Troopers arrived, they allegedly found two nurses had been assaulted by a 42 year old York woman, who was listed as a patient at the facility. PSP Chambersburg continues to investigate.


It appears nobody is screaming for ice cream today as a 43 year old Chambersburg man is charged with retail theft following the alleged theft of a $1.05 ice cream. Police were dispatched to Sheetz on Lincoln Way East in Guilford Township and subsequently charged the man with shoplifting following the incident at 6:30pm on June 24th.


PSP was alerted to an alleged sexual assault of a minor in Antrim Township earlier this year. Police say that the 12 year old victim lives with the suspect and was sexually assaulted around 3am on June 24th. Charges have not yet been filed.


No one has been arrested but police are investigating the theft of a ThinkCar Car scanner from a location on Main Street in Peters Township. Troopers say that the scanner, which was valued around $2200, was reported as stolen around 2pm on June 21st. PSP Continue to investigate.


It appears nobody was individually affected when a Shippensburg based real estate agency had a home in Orrstown burglarized in June. Police responded to a home on Orrstown Road to find a door frame, valued at $500, broken and determined the break in occurred between 5:30am on June 16th and 11:10am on June 18th. Police are asking for the public’s help.


A Hagerstown man was arrested following police allegedly observing burnouts and tire marks in the parking lot of the Greene Township government’s parking lot. The owner of a red sports car, later determined to be a 2020 Ford Mustang, was found at a house party nearby.

That driver was determined to be Jason Black, 44, of Hagerstown. Troopers tried to interview Black but he allegedly refused to speak with them on scene. He was subsequently charged with disorderly conduct and multiple traffic violations.


A 15 year old in Greencastle looks to have been cited for tobacco sale after police were informed on June 15th that he was in possession of nicotine vapes. The concerned parent who brought the information to Troopers agreed to have the vapes destroyed and their child brought in for further assistance.


A Towing company in Shippensburg looks to be out of $2500 worth of gasoline after they allegedly reported the theft of gas cards. Police were alerted around 11am on June 14th that the card was taken and $2,500 worth of fuel purchased. PSP continue to investigate.


Police are looking for an Elmira, NY man after he allegedly runs from police in a U-Haul. Troopers tried to pull over Wayne Douglas Spencer on I-81SB near mile marker 1.9 as the driver was identified in a prior crash. The U-Haul fled into Maryland and Troopers had to end the chase. This all allegedly occurred around 3:50am on June 14th.
