Foot chase in Mercersburg lands man behind bars about six months after fleeing officers in a car

24 May 2024- A Mercersburg man wanted on fleeing an officer charges has now been charged with fleeing Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputies as well. Tony Ray Daley has been charged with misdemeanor flight to avoid apprehension, felony possession of firearm by a prohibited person, and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. Daley failed to post bail of $75,000. In his previous charges levied against him by the Mercersburg Police Department, Daley is accused of felony fleeing an officer and summary traffic violations of driving an unregistered vehicle, refuse inspection, driving at a safe speed, careless driving, and driving without insurance. In that initial case, Daley posted a $60,000 bail with the help of a bail bondsman.

Daley was charged with fleeing an officer all the way back on November 22nd, 2023 by MPD but was only arraigned for the charges on May 21st, 2024. Bench warrants were issued in that case, to which the Franklin County Sheriff’s Department conducted surveillance of Daley’s home to try to apprehend him on May 21st. During this operation, FCSO officials say they witnessed Daley exit his front door and head towards Main Street in Mercersburg before disappearing in an alleyway.

After the FCSO looked in the alleyway, they say Daley was found running eastbound through a number of yards. He was apprehended after continuing to run from police, with him slipping on the sidewalk of East Seminary Street in Mercersburg. Daley was taken into custody shortly after, with officers not having to utilize any immobilizing devices.

During a pat down of Daley, FCSO say they found a baggie of crack cocaine in his front pocket. Additionally, a firearm was found at Daley’s home, which would put him in violation of Pennsylvania rules against a wanted fugitive having a firearm.

Tony Daley is awaiting another court hearing scheduled for May 28th.
