Fire companies cancel fundraisers

Two fire companies serving communities across the region have cancelled activities due to COVID-19.

Fayetteville Volunteer Fire Department announced late last week they will cancel events for the remainder of the year.

“Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 and in the best interest of our members, staff and the community, the FVFD will be cancelling all functions/fundraisers for the rest of 2020,” stated a post on the station’s social media page.

“We will revisit this as 2021 comes to a start. We are saddened by this and hope the community understands and supports our decision.”

Metal Township Fire & Ambulance Company has also cancelled all in-person fundraisers for the remainder of the year.

“The decision was hard to make, but it was made for the safety of our members, firefighters, EMTs and the community,” stated a post on that station’s page. “We hope the community will support our decision to keep us all safe.”

Metal will continue to hold virtual fundraisers, including the annual Christmas raffle drawing Nov. 21, which will be held via Facebook Live beginning at 10 a.m., and the annual Senior Christmas meal for seniors in Path and Amberson valleys, will be held Dec. 21, with pick-up only. Seniors in that region can participate in the carry-out meals by calling 717-349-7563.

Residents can help out both fire companies with donations by calling the department or mailing a check made out to the fire company:
