23 October 2023- A Fayetteville man who reportedly described himself as “very high” is facing numerous charges following an incident at Walmart in Guilford Township and a chase down US-30 and Fayetteville Main Street. Cox failed to post bail of $150,000.

Around 4:30am on Friday, October 20th, Pennsylvania State Police were dispatched to the Walmart on Lincoln Way East outside Chambersburg for a report of a man making threats of violence towards employees at the store. When police arrived, they tried to speak with a man who was outside his Ford F-150 pickup. That man, later identified as Devin Cox of Fayetteville, police say was listening to loud music with a mask over his face.

Police tried to get Cox to turn his music down so they could speak but he was reportedly verbally resistance. Starting to walk towards his truck, police say Cox avoided them and got into his truck. Refusing to talk to them, he allegedly threw the car in reverse then into drive before accelerating at a high rate of speed through the parking lot towards the roadway. During this incident, Cox allegedly almost hit a police officer who was on foot, with the Trooper having to run completely around his cruiser to avoid being seriously injured or killed.

Troopers then gave chase down Lincoln Way East towards Fayetteville, with Cox reportedly breaking numerous traffic laws including speeds of over 100 mph, blowing red lights, and driving in the opposite lane of travel.

Cox allegedly exited Lincoln Way before turning onto West Main Street in Fayetteville. When trying to turn onto another road, Cox allegedly crashed his vehicle into a tree. Police say Cox tried to throw his vehicle in reverse but he was quickly stopped by multiple police cruisers boxing his stopped vehicle in. When police got him to stop, Cox allegedly tried to block up his windows utilizing sun visors and clothing to obscure the windows. Shortly after, however, police broke his driver’s side window and physically removed him from the truck. Cox continued resisting, police say, as he tried to prevent restraints being put on him.

After he was finally put in handcuffs, Cox allegedly “spontaneously related that he was extremely ‘high’ on THC”. Police were able to find an ice cream cone shaped bowl in his vehicle. He was subsequently transported to Chambersburg Hospital for a blood draw.

With Cox in custody, police interviewed the initial caller into 911. That victim said she was in the parking lot of Walmart when he saw Cox listening to loud music and acting strange. Cox was reportedly also yelling at several employees. When the victim tried to check on Cox, he allegedly told her “if you get any closer I will f***ing kill you b***h”. The police were then called.

Devin Cox is behind bars on $150,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for October 31st.
