Fayetteville man charged with trying to get 12 year old victim to not report sexual abuse with a $20 bill

11 December 2023- A Fayetteville man is accused today of assaulting a 12 year old girl earlier this year and then trying to pay the victim to not report the crime. Derick G Small is charged with two counts of misdemeanor indecent assault of a person less than 13 and felony intimidating a witness to refrain from reporting. Small is free on an unsecured bail of $25,000.

In January of 2023, PSP Troopers received a a Child and Youth Services abuse tip that a 12 year old victim had been assaulted by another man over 30 years old. An interview was then set up with the victim and her mother.

During the interview, the victim allegedly said that while at Small’s home in Greene Township, he put his hands down multiple articles of clothing of the victim. During this incident, police say Small told the victim “I can’t wait for you to grow up” and “don’t tell your mom”. The victim was 12 years of age at the time of the incident. After telling her this, Small allegedly placed $20 on the table and told her not to report it.

When the victim’s mother came into her room after the incident, she reportedly saw the money on the table and the victim crying.

Police say that this incident occurred somewhere between January 1st and 20th of 2023.

Derick Small is free on an unsecured bail of $25,000. His preliminary hearing is set for December 19th.
