Fayetteville man charged with illegal hunting found to have 19 illegally owned guns

04 December 2023- A full firearms safe is allegedly found in the home of a man recently arrested on illegal hunting charges, all the while the man allegedly had prior convictions for robbery and drug possession. Donald W Fickes is charged with one count of felony possession of a firearm by a prohibited person. Fickes failed to post his current bail of $25,000. Combined with his previous bail, Fickes is behind bars on $75,000 bail.

On November 20th, a warrant was served on the home of Donald Fickes, Jr on Black Gap Road in Fayetteville. Fickes had recently been arrested for illegal hunting, illegal possession of a firearm, and numerous other charges. Since he had been previously convicted of conspiracy to commit robbery and a felony drug possession case, Fickes was not allowed to own firearms. He was described in court documents as being a “supervised offender”.

During a search of his home, parole officers allegedly found a set of black keys located inside of a cup inside a nightstand of the Fickes, Jr bedroom. The room next to Fickes Jr’s was his father’s bedroom. The keys found in Fickes Jr’s room matched a large green safe inside of his father’s room.

When police opened the large green safe they allegedly found 19 firearms and ammunition for the various guns. Since police say the keys were explicitly inside of Fickes Jr’s bedroom and nightstand, Fickes Jr has been charged with this felony due to him having possession, use, or control of the firearms. Fickes had previously been charged with firearms charges and thus investigators say this confirms he had access to them.

Donald Fickes is behind bars on a combined bail of $75,000. His preliminary hearing is set for December 5th.
