Fairgrounds Park to host Hagerstown firework and “Pyrotechnic Spectacle” show on July 4th

News Talk 1037FM- On Tuesday, July 4, the City of Hagerstown’s Parks & Recreation Division will set the stage for yet another dazzling pyrotechnic spectacle, as the annual fireworks display celebrates Independence Day with a barrage of brilliant colors bursting in air above the city.  The 2023 Fireworks at Fairgrounds Park event is produced by Starfire Corporation.

Beginning at approximately 9:30pm, event-goers can enjoy the fireworks illuminating the sky over Fairgrounds Park while relaxing on a blanket or lawn chair.  The fireworks are also visible from many areas throughout the city for those not able to be onsite.       

Fireworks at Fairgrounds Park is a free event made possible by the City of Hagerstown in partnership with several local business who contribute necessary products and services.  Dumpsters are provided by Republic Services. Light Towers are courtesy of Rentals Unlimited.  Portable Toilets are provided by AC&T; and, Pedestrian Safety Barricades are a service of Long Fence.

Please note, no food or drink vendors will be at this year’s event.  While attendees are encouraged to bring their own food and refreshments, everyone is reminded that no alcohol, tobacco products, or personal fireworks are permitted at in any city park at any time.  A complete list of park rules can be found online.

Visitors to Fairgrounds Park should note that in preparation for the event, some areas of the park normally open to them will be limited or inaccessible on Monday and Tuesday.

Beginning at 4pm on Tuesday, no on-street parking will be permitted on Cleveland Avenue between Jefferson Street and the Fairgrounds Park entrance, on Security Road between Vista Street and Vale Street, or westbound on Security Road between Vale Street and Division Avenue. 

Also, as of 6pm, Cannon Avenue will be closed to all traffic between Jefferson Street and North Mulberry Street; westbound Jefferson Street will also be closed between Cleveland Avenue and Cannon Avenue, but the eastbound lane will remain open. Motorists approaching the closure will be required to detour via other city streets.

The Hagerstown Police Department and the Auxiliary Police will implement additional street closures at the beginning and end of the fireworks show in order to control traffic flow near Fairgrounds Park.  Motorists are cautioned that traffic will be congested in the vicinity of Fairgrounds Park. The fireworks display will conclude at approximately 10pm, and the streets are expected to be reopened to traffic by 11pm.

If rain prevents the fireworks display from being held on Tuesday night, the event will be rescheduled for Wednesday, July 5th; the same street closures and no-parking measures will apply.
