Downtown open house coming to Greencastle

GREENCASTLE—The holiday season begins in Greencastle Nov. 2, with free parking throughout the downtown, followed by a Downtown & Around Town Open House on Nov 7.

“The Downtown and Around Town Open House is an initiative to encourage shopping local,” explained Valerie Meyers of the Greencastle-Antrim Chamber of Commerce. “Not only do the Greencastle-Antrim retailers offer a great variety of products, from the practical to the pretty and from the hard-to-find to the have-to-have, they are committed to the success of the G-A business climate and are treasures in our community.”

Anchor for the event is The Shop, 144 E. Baltimore St.

“We’ve decorated every room with merchandise and gift items,” said Chris Johnston, owner and designer. “You’ll find unique treasures for everyone on your gift list. Come be inspired.”

Just down the street is All Things County at 9 E. Baltimore St., which offers a treasure trove of country wares, including home and garden decor, locally-inspired items and handcrafted furniture.

Alternative Choices at 32 N. Allison St., will be giving away a number of specialty gift baskets for the event, as well as offering a sale on immune supplement.

The recently-opened, Bean & Biscuit, 18 E. Baltimore St., is offering 10% off all orders with a drawing for a Bean & Biscuit gift bag which includes a $25 gift card, T-shirt and other goodies.

Other stores in and around the downtown will offer special discounts during the event.

E.L.M. Department Store on the square will offer 20% to 50% off men’s sweaters, jackets and shirts; ELM Shoes will also have sales; Cumberland Valley School of Music Growing With Music, will give 10% off purchases of $10 or more; Teal Blossom Boutique at 38 Center Square, will offer refreshments and gift drawings throughout the day; and The Center of Balance, will hold door prize drawings each hour.

If your shopping day starts early, head to Lumber Direct at 10 E. Walter Ave., which will open at 7 a.m.

Free parking is sponsored by Ganoe Paving.
