26 September 2023- The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in Pennsylvania is at it again and it looks like the South Mountain Golf Course is back in its crosshairs. The DCNR announced earlier this month that they will not be renewing the lease to the Golf Course in the Fayetteville/Mont Alto area. Using the land, the DCNR is looking to create a new base of operations from Caledonia to a newly constructed building on the grounds of the current golf course.
If this sounds familiar, this happened a number of years ago under the Governorship of Ed Rendell. An 11th hour stay by the administration, under the pushing and prodding of local representatives and senators, kept the lease in place but that looks to end on 12/31/2026.
The 9 Hole Course is a staple in the community, with significant pushback already place from both regulars at the course as well as community leaders.
South Mountain Fish & Game Club are holding a townhall to push for the saving of the golf course on October 18th at 5pm at their location of 11547 Loop Road, Fayetteville, PA 17222. Full statement from the Fish & Game Club on the sunsetting of the property is below.
