CHAMBERSBURG – The Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter will hold its first-ever silent auction on Facebook beginning at noon today, Aug. 31, through noon Friday, Sept. 4.
Volunteers have gathered items for baskets that will be auctioned off to the highest bidder to support the animals.
“With the current situation with COVID many of our regular fundraisers have been canceled,” explained Jennifer Vanderau, director of communications with CVAS. “As a result, we had to think outside the box to make up for the shortfall of income.”
The silent auction is an event on the shelter’s Facebook page and participants are asked to click on the “Discussion” tab, peruse the photos of the items and bid on what they would like in the comment section.
At noon on Sept. 4, the auction will close and the items will go to the highest bidder.
“Because we wanted to reach the biggest audience possible to hopefully increase the bidding, we are willing to ship items to people outside of our area,” Vanderau said. “My only caution is some of the gift cards may be Chambersburg-specific, so folks should keep that in mind.”
Monies raised from the auction will go toward caring for the thousands of homeless animals the shelter sees every year.
“I cannot thank our volunteers enough for stepping up to help with this,” said Vanderau. “These baskets are absolutely amazing and they created them out of their own pockets because they wanted to help our babies. The supporters we have really make my heart happy.”
