Cumberland Co. PSP Roundup: Assault against nurses, destruction of a decorative toilet, more

30 August 2023- A Mechanicsburg man is arrested following a dispute with two Shippensburg residents and a New Bloomfield man. Police were called to UPMC Carlisle Medical Center for a reported assault on several staff members.

Troopers say that Andrew John Zwierzyna was being treated at the hospital when he reportedly became aggressive and assaulted several of the staff members. Zwierzyna was arrested for felony aggravated assault against designated individuals and failed to post bail.


A Newville man out supplies and a weed whacker after a theft from his property. Troopers were called to a home on Doubling Gap Road on August 22nd for a report of several items being stolen and a chain being cut to the gate of the home.

Police conducted a search of the area and found that multiple bales of hay, diesel, and a weed whacker were stolen from the victim’s property. PSP Carlisle continue to investigate.


Troopers were called to the Parx Casino in Shippensburg earlier this month for a theft of a voucher. Police say a 50 year old Shepherdstown, WV woman was arrested for theft when she used funds at a slot machine that were left by a 82 year old female victim.

When the victim returned, she allegedly said that the West Virginia woman was not allowed to use her funds. Charges are set to be filed with MDJ Adams.


A Westfield, MA woman is looking at DUI charges after a stop in Shippensburg earlier this week. Police say Caitlin McClenahan, 36, was stopped for traffic violations in the 200 block of S Queen Street in the Borough of Shippensburg around 1:15am on August 26th. Troopers subsequently arrested McClenahan on suspicion of DUI.


A Carlisle woman is out a “decorative toilet” after damage was done to it earlier this summer. PSP Troopers were called to a home on E Main Street in West Pennsboro Twp around 10pm on July 4th for a reported criminal mischief.

When police arrived, they determined unknown actors damaged a victim’s decorative toilet. No other information is known, other than the value of the toilet being listed as $200.


Troopers were called to the area around Conestoga Drive and S Hollar Drive in Shippensburg just before 9pm on August 24th for a reported disturbance. When police arrived, they talked to both parties, a 54 year old Shippensburg woman and a 61 year old Shippensburg man.

Police determined that the man, Hershel Preston, was under the influence and causing a disturbance in a public place by making threatening statements to the victim. Preston was taken into custody with charges filed through MDJ Adams.
