CPD Roundup: Police locate runaway….stealing from Rutters, rocks thrown from car, more

25 May 2023- On 5-21-2023 at 6:20 pm a Juvenile led police on a foot chase after he was spotted by an off-duty officer.  The Juvenile was reported as a Runaway earlier that day.  The Juvenile was found to be in possession of stolen property from Rutter’s convenience store at the time of his apprehension.  The Juvenile was turned over to Franklin County Juvenile Probation.


On May 16th 2023, a citizen reported that he was struck by an object that was intentionally thrown from a moving vehicle while he was walking in the 800 block of Wayne Ave. The citizen believed that the object was thrown from the vehicle depicted in the photograph. Police are attempting to identify the vehicle owner and speak with the driver. The person/vehicle shown in this photo may have information relevant to an ongoing police investigation. He/she is a person of interest, but not necessarily a suspect at this time. 


Sometime between 03/24/2023 and 05/19/2023 someone broke into a Chambersburg Borough shed located on Dump Road and stole bags of Porous Pave rubber material. Anyone with information regarding this case is requested to contact the Chambersburg Police Department or leave a tip on Crimewatch. 


On May 16th 2023, the Chambersburg Police Dept responded to a business in the 300 block of Grant St regarding a burglary. Forced entry had been made to the business during the early morning hours of May 15th, and tools were stolen. The tools were later recovered from the home of Velez, and he admitted to the burglary. 


On 4/23/2023 Clayton Sweeney struck a guidewire on a utility pole then left the scene without contacting police. Sweeney was located near the scene of the accident, and it was determined that he had driven the vehicle and was intoxicated. Sweeney was charged with one count of 3802C (DUI-Highest Rate)(M), one count of 1543b1.1i (Driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked (S), and one count of 3745 (a) Accidents involving damage to unattended vehicle or property(S).
