CPD Roundup: Multiple stolen license plates in Borough, dog law violations, more

02 April 2024- On 03/26/2024, the Chambersburg Police Department took a report of a stolen license plate. It was discovered that someone had switched license plates on the victim’s vehicle. The stolen license plate displays Pennsylvania Registration #MKJ2045. Upon further investigation, the stolen license plate was seen on a Honda Fit on 03/17/2024. On Saturday March 23rd at approximately 0142 hrs, an unknown subject entered a vehicle parked on Hamilton Rd and removed several items. The actor then fled the area on foot towards S Main St. Anyone with information regarding this incident is urged to contact CPD or leave a tip on Crimewatch.   


On 03/30/2024, the Chambersburg Police Department took a report of a stolen license plate in the 200 block of Whitley Dr. It was discovered that someone had taken the victim’s license plate off of their vehicle between 8:30 P.M. on 03/29/2024 and 5:30 A.M. on 03/30/2024. The stolen license plate displays Pennsylvania Registration #LXX9063. On 2/24/2024, a CPD officer was dispatched to the 300 block of Lincoln Way E for what was initially reported as a welfare check. The caller reported that a male was unconscious in a vehicle. CPD officers made contact with the male who was later identified as Joshua Waldron. An investigation revealed that Waldron was under the influence of a controlled substance. Waldron was taken into custody and criminal charges for DUI were filed against Waldron. 


On 03/24/2024, the Chambersburg Police Department responded to Giant Foods for a reported hit and run. The victim reported that sometime between 10:30pm and 11:00pm his vehicle was struck while parked in the parking lot. The suspect vehicle is a blue Dodge Ram with a white sticker on the side of the vehicle. On 02/28/2024 at 3:58pm CPD Units were dispatched for a hit and run of an unattended vehicle that occurred on the 200 block of E King St. The victim explained that they were in their residence when they heard what appeared to be an accident. During the investigation, CPD officers were able to locate camera footage of a Silver Honda Civic striking two vehicles. CPD determined that Juana Vargas-Mendez was the driver of the Civic. Mendez was cited with  Accidents Involving Damage To Unattended Vehicle.


Carolyn Thompson was cited due to her two dogs being loose on the sidewalk of East King Street. The dogs went onto another person’s property and frightened several people in the area.  The dogs also chased an individual. The dogs were corralled and placed back into their residence. Contact was made with Thompson, who did not know the front door of her residence was open and that her dogs were roaming the street.
