CPD follow trail of broken road signs and car parts through borough to find drunk driver

28 June 2023- A Chambersburg man is found to have a BAC of three times the legal limit after allegedly running into borough signage. Brenton Todd Wrights is behind bars after failing to post bail of $20,000 following charges of misdemeanor DUI, misdemeanor driving without an ignition interlock, and summary accidental damage to unattended property.

Around 1:20am on June 27th, Chambersburg PD were dispatched to the intersection of Water Street and W Washington Streets in the borough for a report of a gray SUV striking a pole after making a turn on W Washington Street. The car allegedly continued south on Water Street and left the pole laying across the rail trail.

Following the vehicle on borough security cameras, police were able to find the car strike the pole. After eventually turning onto W Liberty Street with heavy front end damage, the driver allegedly removed a damaged piece of his car and left it on the side of the road. Through this exiting of the car, police were able to identify the driver.

The car then allegedly pulled into the Econo Lodge hotel and then back onto the roadway on Wayne Avenue. The car allegedly ran a stop sign and then drove up a traffic island while pulling into 1091 Wayne Avenue. Police were able to pull him over at this point and he was identified as Brenton Wrights. Wrights allegedly admitted to police that he had had around 4 alcoholic beverages earlier in the day. After allegedly smelling alcohol coming from Wright and his car, police conducted a breathalyzer test. Wrights allegedly had a BAC of .24% and did not have an ignition interlock on his car, even though he was legally obligated to have one.

Brenton Wrights is behind bars on $20,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for July 6th.
