CPD Charge – Risking a Catastrophe

CHAMBERSBURG – In a statement released by Chambersburg Police today, 20 June 2024, Officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Hollywell Ave for what was initially reported as a disturbance at 12:33am.

The victim reported that Rayvon McLaughlin poured gasoline inside of their apartment and threatened to burn it down. The victim was able to prevent McLaughlin from setting the apartment on fire prior to him fleeing from the residence. Responding officers found that gasoline had been spilled inside the apartment. The Chambersburg Fire Department (CFD) was requested to assist due to the risk of fire or explosion. CFD arrived and determined that the gasoline fumes were extremely concentrated and that the connecting apartments needed to be evacuated.

Four apartments were evacuated until the fumes dissipated. While officers were at the scene conducting the evacuation, McLaughlin returned to the residence and was immediately taken into custody. McLaughlin was transported to the Franklin County Jail to await his arraignment for the charges of Risking a Catastrophe, Terroristic Threats, and Simple Assault (Domestic Violence).
