CPD arrest man for breaking into home, trying to take appliances

30 January 2024- A Chambersburg man is facing burglary and attempted theft charges after allegedly breaking a window and trying to take appliances from a home on Wayne Avenue over the weekend. Carl Lee Seylar Jr is charged with felony burglary of overnight accommodations and misdemeanor attempted theft. Seylar is behind bars after failing to post bail of $25,000.

Chambersburg PD was dispatched to a home in the 300 block of Wayne Avenue in the borough on January 27th for a reported attempted burglary. The caller allegedly told dispatch that they knew the alleged burglar by the name Carl Seylar Jr, with Seylar Jr reportedly breaking a window out of his back door before removing the door knob and entering the home.

When CPD arrived, they spoke to the two callers. The men reportedly told police that they heard a loud commotion going on outside their backdoor before glass was broken and the door knob came flying off. Retrieving a hammer for protection and not knowing who was breaking in, the men then found Carl Seylar Jr enter the home where he told the men he was there to take the washer, dryer, and other appliances at the request of the landlord.

That landlord then came at police’s request and told them that Seylar was not, in fact, allowed to take the appliances nor to enter the home.

Carl Seylar Jr is behind bars on $25,000 bail.
