Convicted robber finally arraigned on 2023 fleeing Chambersburg PD charges

27 February 2024- A Philadelphia man wanted for fleeing from Chambersburg PD officers in June of 2023 has finally been arraigned and is behind bars on a hefty bail. Salik Xavier Markel Wright was charged with felony flight to avoid apprehension, misdemeanor escape, misdemeanor fleeing an officer, and traffic violations of driving without a license and failure to stop at two red lights. Wright failed to post bail of $100,000, likely due to previous interactions with police and warrant service.

Chambersburg PD officers were on regular patrol inside the borough around 7:30pm on June 15th, 2023, when they spotted a silver Infiniti parked in the Southgate Shopping Mall fire lane. After parking behind that Infiniti, officers approached in full uniform to speak with the driver, who happened to be in the drivers seat. Providing his PA ID card, officers found that man to be Salik Wright of Philadelphia.

After checking with dispatch to confirm the man’s ID number, officers allegedly learned that Wright had an active warrant from the state parole office as he was under their supervision for a robbery conviction. Asking Wright to step out of the vehicle for questioning, officers then began a short verbal argument when the former began to not comply with their questions. Wright, officers say, rolled his windows up, locked the door, and placed the vehicle into drive before fleeing from Southgate.

Other officers were alerted and the first CPD officer gave chase. Wright allegedly drove through two red lights before getting onto S Second Street heading northbound. It was at this point that officers disengaged from pursuit “due to the fact the defendants’ identity had already been obtained and it would have placed the public in greater danger”. A search of Wright’s ID card later determined him to not be a licensed driver.

Salik Wright is behind bars on $100,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for March 5th.
