Child Struck And Killed On Interstate 70

A four-year-old girl was struck and killed while trying to cross the highway and her twin sister was seriously injured Monday night.

Maryland State Police said the pair were struck by separate vehicles as they were attempting to meet their cousin who had exited a parked vehicle.

The mother of the children reportedly got out of the passenger side and went to the rear of the vehicle. At the same time, the teenage male passenger got out of the vehicle and ran across both lanes of westbound Interstate 70 to the center median.

The 4-year-old was transported to Meritus Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.  The three-year-old was taken to John Hopkins Children’s Hospital.

The interstate was shut down for several hours while the State Police investigated.
