10 October 2023- A recent Chambersburg mother is back behind bars after allegedly cutting off her ankle monitor sometime around when she gave birth. Shakira Shownta Staten is charged with felony escape and is in remand of Franklin County Jail on bail of $100,000.
On August 8th, Chambersburg PD were alerted to a reported escape from supervision in the borough on Federal Street. Franklin County Probation reported to CPD that they believed Shakira Staten had cut her ankle monitor off while she was on probation supervision for aggravated assault.
Staten’s PO was made aware of the incident by Staten’s grandmother. Police say Staten had recently given birth and was unable to charge her ankle monitor. There was, however, an agreement to charge the ankle monitor as soon as Staten returned from the hospital but it appeared that this was not followed through with.
CPD and Franklin County Probation tried to contact anyone at Staten’s home but were unable to. They returned to her home some time later and were able to find Staten’s ankle monitor, which showed signs of it being cut off.
Shakira Staten is back behind bars after being apprehended and arraigned on October 4th. Her preliminary hearing is set for October 17th.
