07 September 2023- Police have a man in custody following a Wednesday life flighting of a Chambersburg man to a trauma center. Oscar Lopez-Marquez is charged with criminal attempted homicide, felony aggravated assault with extreme indifference, felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and misdemeanor terroristic threats. Lopez-Marquez was denied bail by MDJ Eyer, saying “No amount of money or conditions will keep the public safe”.
Chambersburg PD officers were called to the 500 block of Lincoln Way East on September 6th for a reported stabbing, with dispatch telling officers that Oscar Lopez-Marquez was on the phone with them after he stabbed his father in the back. Lopez-Marquez was told by dispatch to drop the knife and come outside to meet with police, which he seemingly complied with as he was detained without incident.
When police arrived on scene, the reportedly found blood on the back porch and the adult victim with a stab wound in his back near his spine. The man, who was Lopez-Marquez’s father, was being treated in the back of an ambulance prior to being flown to a trauma center. The victim, however, was alert and allegedly told police that his son held a knife to his neck prior to stabbing him in the back.
A juvenile family member was interviewed by police as he had a cut on his finger and blood on his hand. Police say that the victim told them that Lopez-Marquez had stabbed his father while the latter was working on the computer. The cut was sustained after the stabbing when the juvenile tried to gain control of the knife following the stabbing. Additionally, police learned that Lopez-Marquez said he was “going to kill” the victim repeatedly.
CPD officers were able to listen to the 911 call made by Lopez-Marquez. When dispatch asked what the emergency was, Lopez-Marquez allegedly said “If I’m going to be honest, I almost tried- I stabbed my dad”. During the call, he allegedly said multiple times “I stabbed him”.
Oscar Lopez-Marquez is behind bars after being denied bail. His preliminary hearing is set for September 19th.
