Chambersburg man arrested on gun charges a year after allegedly threatening another woman

27 October 2023- An arrest a year in the making, MDJ Manns in Chambersburg finally arraigns a man wanted for illegal firearm possession and assault. Wesley Andre Cureton is charged with felony illegal possession of a firearm, felony firearm carried without a license, and misdemeanor assault. Cureton failed to post bail of $50,000.

Chambersburg PD officers were dispatched just before 1pm on July 27th, 2022 to a home on S Main Street for a dispute involving a firearm. When officers arrived, they began speaking to the victim of the incident.

The victim allegedly told police that there was a verbal argument between her and Cureton, with her saying “I’m gonna call them”, referencing the police. When this was prompted, Cureton allegedly pulled out a handgun from his fanny pack sling bag and said “call who?”. Fearing for her safety, the victim called the police and Cureton fled.

Cureton was found when police arrived, with him reportedly denying that he had a firearm. Police subsequently searched Cureton’s vehicle after he consented to a search. Inside of the vehicle they reportedly found a black fanny pack matching the description the victim gave them. Additionally, a black mask was found in the car. Cureton was released after while officers continued their investigaiton.

While police searched the areas surrounding where the initial incident occurred, they allegedly found an unattended black suitcase outside of a vacant apartment. Inside of the suitcase officers say they found a black 9mm handgun matching the one described by the victim as well as a black and green “AR-15 style” pistol.

Security footage through borough cameras were obtained by officers, with them reportedly clearly showing Cureton carrying the black suitcase into the breezeway that it was found in. At this time, Cureton was also wearing a black mask, again corroborating the victim.

Wesley Cureton has prior arrests for possession of a controlled substance, which would preclude him from owning a firearm.

Cureton is behind bars after finally being arraigned on October 17th, 2023. His preliminary hearing is set for October 31st.
