Brent Tyler Smith is charged with felony possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, felony strangulation, misdemeanor terroristic threats, and two counts of misdemeanor assault. Smith failed to post bail of $75,000.
Chambersburg PD were called to the area of 14 N Main Street in the borough around 10:45pm on August 12th. Officers found the victim caller, who said that her boyfriend Brent Smith had assaulted her and was chasing her. The victim was found in the King Street Church Parking Lot, with Smith then being picked up shortly after and taken into custody.
The victim told police that around an hour prior her and her step mother were at home when Smith began arguing with her. Smith allegedly picked up the victim’s step-mother’s handgun from inside a drawer in the living room and pointed it at the victim, saying “I’ll send my people after you and they will kill you”. Smith eventually put the gun down and the victim and her step-mother took him home.
When they arrived at Smith’s home, he allegedly refused to leave without the victim, eventually choking her, slapping her, and biting her face. The victim was able to get away and that was when police were called.
The handgun that Smith allegedly threatened the victim with was found to be in working order, as well as a background check showing that he couldn’t possess a firearm due to a prior guilty plea for possession with intent to distribute.
Brent Smith failed to post bail of $75,000. His preliminary hearing is set for August 22nd.
