CHAMBERSBURG–Due to the overwhelming increase in COVID cases, the IceFest Committee, along with presenting sponsor, M&T Bank, has opted to cancel this year’s event.
“We feel that it would be irresponsible to hold an event that brings such large crowds to our downtown,” organizers said in an email Friday. “We have run through different scenarios to try to make the event safer, but the reality is there just isn’t a way to keep the expected crowds socially distanced and safe.”
Organizers said this is not a decision made lightly.
“We know this will affect businesses downtown that rely on the traffic that IceFest brings,” the statement said. “The three organizations will do their best to continue their missions to bring people downtown and potential customers through your doors throughout 2021 with smaller, more manageable events.”
