Chambersburg gets a little cooler with new shade tree grants from PA

21 November 2023- The Borough of Chambersburg Shade Tree Commission is pleased to be a grantee of Tree Pennsylvania’s Bare Root Tree Program. Twelve trees were received and planted at Nicholson Square Park, Mill Creek Acres Park, and in tree pits downtown. Volunteers and members of the Shade Tree Commission planted the trees the week of November 6, 2023.

The Shade Tree Commission was established by Town Council and consists of five volunteer members who have exclusive custody and control of shade trees in the Borough, which are planted or growing on any public street right-of-way under the control of the Borough. They also provide public education on tree planting and care.

Chambersburg is a member of Tree City USA. The Tree City USA program has been greening-up cities and towns across America since 1976. It is a nationwide movement that provides the framework necessary for communities to manage and expand their public trees. More than 3,400 communities have made the commitment to becoming a Tree City USA. Trees benefit all members of our community.
