August 18 – President Joe Biden, Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol will gather for a summit this weekend at Camp David to discuss strengthening security and economic ties, as well as nuclear threats from North Korea and China’s actions in the Pacific.
This summit will take place right in our own backyard.
Attorney Clint Barkdoll said, “This is a big deal today. It looks like this summit will focus on all sorts of things with both economics and national defense issues in the Pacific Rim, specifically related to China and to a lesser extent, North Korea. It’s unclear if there are expectations over the weekend, are they going to sign some kind of an accord or a treaty that they would come out maybe Saturday or Sunday to announce something? I think there’s a likelihood that that could happen.”
Press events have also been scheduled for the weekend.
Barkdoll said, “Many of their meetings, of course, will be behind closed doors. Of course if you’re over in that area, the Thurmont, Maryland, area, there’s going to be a lot of additional population over these next few days because not only the press corps, but all of the people, the entourages that would be traveling with these leaders from Japan and South Korea. So it’s going to be an interesting few days over there.”
Pat Ryan of NewsTalk 103.7FM said, “Vacation Joe is hitting some new numbers on his time away, but the time he spends at Camp David. I don’t know if Trump ever made it out there, but one time I think.”
Barkdoll confirmed, “Trump did not like Camp David and he was there some. His family used it a lot. The kids use it a lot. But Trump was not a fan of it. Remember early in his administration, there was even reporting that he might want to just sell it, get rid of it, which of course did not happen. So Biden has used it more but again, not as much, historically you think of presidents the last 30, 40 years, they use it a lot more than we’ve seen the last few presidents use it.”
