Caledonia State Park opens to camping April 5th

28 March 2024- Caledonia State Park Manager Earl Hockenberry announced today that both Chinquapin Hill and Hosack Run campgrounds at Caledonia State Park will open as of April 5th.

“We are very pleased to be opening over 160 camp sites this year, of which 36 are full service.” stated Mr. Hockenberry.  “We encourage the use of our reservation system either on the internet at www.visitpaparks.com or toll-free telephone at 1-888-727-2757.”

Chinquapin Hill Campground, with a total of 113 campsites, is nestled on the side of a mountain among plenty of shade trees and is close to the swimming pool. The park amphitheater is in this camping area and is accessible to the public from the day use parking area.

Hosack Run, which is pet friendly and has 49 camping sites, is located approximately one mile north of the park office just off state route 233 and is close to the Appalachian Trail.

Both Chinquapin Hill and Hosack Run camping areas provide drinking water, showers, flush toilets, and sanitary dump stations.

Caledonia State Park, which covers 1,125 acres, is located in Franklin and Adams counties, midway between Chambersburg and Gettysburg along the Lincoln Highway, US 30.

The park is nestled within South Mountain, the northern terminus of the well-known Blue Ridge Mountain of Maryland and Virginia. Within South Mountain there are four state parks and over 90,000 acres of state forest land waiting to be explored and enjoyed. The soils on either side of South Mountain are ideal for fruit production, proven by the abundance of orchards in the surrounding area.

Caledonia State Park is open every day of the year, sunrise to sunset. The park office is open from 8:00am until 4:00pm 7days a week. Contact the park office for facility availability at 717-352-2161. For information on Caledonia and Pennsylvania’s other 120 state parks, visit www.dcnr.pa.gov and click on “Find a Park.”
