26 May 2023- On 5/26/23 at about 1:20am Officers of the Hagerstown Police Department responded to a residence in the 400 block of S. Potomac St. for a report of a shooting. A female victim, later identified as Carol Thompson, age 55 of Hagerstown, was located with a gunshot wound to the stomach and her right hand. Officers immediately began to render aid until Community Rescue Service arrived on scene and took over medical care. She was transported to Meritus Medical Center for treatment. The victim is expected to make a full recovery.
As one of the officers was arriving on the scene he saw a male in between houses in the 400 block of S. Potomac St. He made contact with the male, later identified as Russell Younker (age 37 of Hagertown), and as the officer was approaching him he noticed a small handgun lying next to Younker’s feet. Younker was subsequently arrested. In the immediate area of Younker at the time of his arrest were 3 additional firearms along with small containers of suspected narcotics.
A search and seizure warrant was executed at the residence where the shooting took place. Additional narcotics were located along with ammunition and an additional loaded gun magazine. At this time the shooting incident is still being investigated. Younker has been charged with numerous firearms and narcotics related violations.
