15 March 2023- After discussing the interviews of the five applicants for the vacant Hagerstown City Council in Executive Session Tuesday afternoon, the four current Councilmembers selected Matthew J. Schindler as the candidate to replace former Councilmember and current Mayor Tekesha Martinez.
The selection of Schindler will be put forward for a vote in a Special Session at next Tuesday’s Mayor & Council meeting. Should the vote go in his favor, Schindler will then be officially appointed and sworn in by the Mayor immediately thereafter.
Schindler has served on the City’s Ethics Commission since August of 2021, and during his interview expressed that it was his love for Hagerstown that lit a fire in him to apply for the vacant Council seat.
The City wishes to thank to each of the individuals who applied and looks forward to their continued input and support as engaged, passionate, and civic-minded residents of Hagerstown.
