BREAKING: Chambersburg PD charge man with Monday’s Southgate armed robbery

22 March 2024- On March 18th, 2024, at approximately 1:05pm, a robbery occurred at 251 Southgate Mall, on Cedar Street in Chambersburg. As previously reported, during that incident a substantial amount of currency was stolen from two security officers who were there collecting money from a business. This business had housed PA Games of Skill.

After committing the robbery, the suspects fled in a white 2011 Ford Transit Connect van, which CPD had previously released a picture of on their Crimewatch Page. CPD detectives began investigating the robbery immediately and during the course of their investigation, over 15 cash containers were found in multple locations throughout the eastern portion of Franklin County.

On March 20th, CPD detectives received information from the Pennsylvania State Police that the suspect vehicle had been captured on their automated license plate readers, which showed the suspect vehicle being towed on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The tow company was researched and detectives requested the assistance of the City of Reading Police Department. Officers of the Reading PD responded to that tow company and located the van. The van was towed to a separate location.

CPD Detectives, along with the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop L Forensic Unit, responded to search the van for evidence. Evidence was located within the van, which directly connected the vehicle to the robbery in Chambersburg. After further investigation, CPD has identified the individual they believe had been driving the van during the robbery. This individual also took part in the robbery.

Today, March 22, the Chambersburg Police Department Criminal Investigation Division has obtained an arrest warrant for Alfredo Cardona Padilla, who resides in Reading, PA. This is still an active investigation. Information pertaining to any further evidence will not be disclosed at this time. CPD is still seeking information regarding the identities of the other two suspects.

At this time, Cardona Padilla is facing three felony counts of robbery with threat of immediate serious injury, felony aggravated assault against designated individuals, felony possession of a firearm, two felony counts of theft, felony firearm carried without a license, and two misdemeanor counts of unlawful restraint.
