BREAKING: 15 year old Chambersburg teen charged with attempted murder following Saturday night shooting

13 September 2023- A Chambersburg teen is facing homicide charges after allegedly shooting another juvenile in the back on Saturday in the borough. 15 year old Aaron Keithe Helman is charged with criminal attempted homicide, felony aggravated assault, and misdemeanor possession of a firearm by a minor. Helman was denied bail by MDJ Manns after an 11pm arraignment last night.

Chambersburg PD officers were dispatched to the area between Garber and Glenn Streets in the borough around 6:45pm on September 9th for a report of shots fired. The caller allegedly told police that they observed two males run from the area with a third limping away. After giving descriptions of those involved, police arrived and began canvassing the area. The victim, however, was not located at that time.

The next day around 11am, CPD responded to Chambersburg Hospital for a patient who arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound. The wound, located about five inches from their waistline, was severe enough for doctors to necessitate a life flight to York Hospital. Police say that the victim was also a juvenile.

On September 12th, police followed up with the victim after treatment, with them learning that he and another friend were walking in the alley between Glen and Garber Streets when he was shot in the back. Additionally, police were able to obtain which home the shooter lived at, which turned out to be the address of Aaron Helman. Another female, police say, was with Helman at the time of the shooting. This was allegedly corroborated by another witness soon after.

Aaron Helman is behind bars on bail denied. His preliminary hearing is set for September 26th.
