Bah Humbug! Recycle your Christmas tree in Chambersburg, Greencastle, and Washington County!

27 December 2023- Is your tree already looking a little green around the gills, but in a bad way? Maybe you just want to pack up the Christmas decorations, un-trim the tree, and start fresh in the new year. The good news is many local municipalities, including around Franklin and Washington Counties, are taking them for free!

Washington County, Maryland

Please note: All locations will accept a maximum of 2 trees per household. 

  • Forty West Landfill, one mile west of Huyett’s Crossroads off Route 40 on Earth Care Road (Monday – Saturday from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.) 
  • Greensburg Convenience Center, 13125 Bikle Road (Tuesday – Saturday from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) 
  • Hancock Convenience Center, 6502 Hess Road (Tuesday – Saturday from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) 
  • Kaetzel Convenience Center, 2926 Kaetzel Road (Tuesday – Saturday from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) 
  • Dargan Convenience Center, 2201 Dargan School Road (Tuesday – Saturday from 7:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.) 

Borough of Chambersburg

Chambersburg Borough will begin curbside Christmas Tree collection starting Monday, January 8, at 7:30 am, for those homes on Lincoln Way and south of Lincoln Way. Similarly, beginning Monday, January 15, at 7:30 am, for those homes north of Lincoln Way.

All lights, garland, and decorations need to be removed. All trees are brought to the Borough’s green yard waste recycling center by the Sanitation Department and included in the recycling and mulch waste we create at the facility 

Borough of Greencastle

Boy Scout Troop 99 will be collecting Christmas trees in the Borough on Saturday, January 6th.

Anyone participating in the recycling should place their tree on curbs by 8am for collection.
