Automated speed cameras to be put up around Pleasant Valley Elementary in Knoxville

02 February 2024- The Washington County Sheriff’s Office advises motorists of new Automated Speed Enforcement Cameras, which will be located in the area of Pleasant Valley Elementary School, 1700 block of Rohrersville Road, Knoxville, MD.  The cameras will begin enforcement on February 7, 2024. 

The cameras aim to reduce the number of speeding offenses in the school zone, reduce accident in the school zones, and provide a deterrent to potential future violators.

Automated Speed Enforcement Cameras are activated Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. in designated school zones. Violators must travel 12 mph over the posted speed limit for the camera to activate and a citation to be issued. A school zone speed camera violation is $40 with no points. Citations are issued to the registered owner of the vehicle.
