Assault, animal cruelty charges levied against Chambersburg man using his own security system

22 March 2024- A security camera installation seems to backfire for a Chambersburg area man, leading to animal cruelty and assault charges. Rauzhaun Tahd Schroyer is charged with misdemeanor assault, five misdemeanor counts of cruelty to animals, and summary harassment. Schroyer was issued a summons to appear before MDJ Plum in Pleasant Hall.

Pennsylvania State Police were initially alerted to a possible child abuse situation at a home in Hamilton Township by anonymous sources. PSP spoke to that CI who said they had videos from surveillance cameras inside of the home of Rauzhaun Schroyer. Schroyer, PSP say, originally purchased a number of cameras because he believed his live-in girlfriend was cheating on him.

The footage that PSP received from the CI, however, allegedly showed Schroyer strike both the female victim, one of the children, and the dog that the family had. One victim can reportedly be seen on video being struck by Schroyer with his hands and objects. During another, Schroyer allegedly swings at one of the victims and striking the side of their head. This caused the child to fall to the ground and cry.

The videos, PSP say, also show Schroyer assault the dog by pulling them forcefully from their cage, striking it three times in the head/face, and kicking it in different videos.

All of the information from the videos comes from Pennsylvania State Police, who say they have viewed it as a result of contact with a confidential informant.

Rauzhaun Schroyer is awaiting a summons on the previously mentioned charges.
