Arrest made in October slaying

HAGERSTOWN, MD—An arrest has been made in the Oct. 14 homicide of Daynard Johnson.

Alexander Daniel Brooks, 25, of Hagerstown, was taken into custody in Ocean City on an active warrant for murder.

He was located and arrested by HPD detectives in conjunction with OCPD and the US Marshals/MSP Apprehension Team.

Brooks is charged with first and second-degree murder; conspiracy to commit first and second degree murder; numerous firearms related charges; and numerous other charges in relation to the commission of murder.

He is currently being held at the Washington County Detention Center.

According to police, the murder of Daynard Johnson remains an ongoing investigation. HPD detectives will continue to work tirelessly to bring any other persons involved to justice,” said Lt. Rebecca Fetchu, investigative services commander for HPD. “We anticipate other arrests will be made and we will update the media as appropriate.”
