Arizona man clocked going 116mph down LWW, passing Trooper and other car in turning lane

08 December 2023- An Arizona man may be lucky to be alive following what could have been a devastating high speed collision on Lincoln Way West last night. Tacheeni Yazzie of Phoenix, Arizona, is behind bars in Franklin County today after being charged with misdemeanor DUI, misdemeanor obstruction of law enforcement, as well as three traffic violations. Yazzie failed to post bail of $25,000.

Around 11:10pm on December 7th, Pennsylvania State Police Troopers were on regular patrol in an unmarked car traveling Lincoln Way West in Hamilton Township when a 1997 Chevy Silverado pickup passed between them and a tractor trailer in the middle turning lane at a high rate of speed.

The officer immediately turned around and began a pursuit of the vehicle, which they say reached a speed of 116mph. The chase, which officers say lasted about 2.5 miles, ended with the officer pulling the Silverado over near Maxheimer Road in St Thomas.

When the Trooper approached the vehicle, he allegedly could smell a strong odor of alcohol as well as observing two Jim Beam plastic bottles sitting on the front seat of the vehicle. The man, now identified by his Arizona license as Tacheeni Yazzie, was allegedly visually drunk and had extremely bloodshot and watery eyes.

Officers attempted to conduct field sobriety tests on Yazzie, for which he declined to attempt them. He was then taken into custody, but again refused to be placed into the rear of the officer’s patrol car. Yazzie again denied a consensual blood draw to determine his BAC. After getting a search warrant from MDJ Plum, Yazzie again allegedly denied a legal blood draw, resulting in the charge of obstruction of a law enforcement activity.

Tacheeni Yazzie is behind bars on $25,000 bail. His preliminary hearing is set for December 19th.
