A park in Texas is now part of the push and pull of the immigration at the Southern Border

January 12 – A riverfront park at Eagle Pass, Texas, has become somewhat of a hostage to the immigration issue in the state recently.

Eagle Pass is the town right on the border between Texas and Mexico, where a lot of illegal immigrants pass through.

A delegation of more than 60 US House of Representatives toured the area just last week.

The park has been used for various events over the years.

The Texas National Guard on Wednesday seized control of the park, blocking access with Humvees.

The city of Eagle Pass was not consulted or allowed to give consent for this seizure.

Private citizens, city officials and border patrol agents were blocked from entering the park.

Pat Ryan of NewsTalk 103.7FM said, “This is huge news here with the Texas military department saying that the Feds perpetuate illegal crossings and they’ve shown the Feds the door. Thank God for the Texas National Guard but I think this is a huge story.”

Attorney Clint Barkdoll agreed, “It is a huge story. It should be getting more attention. It’s a very interesting legal story, too, because just to back up a couple of weeks ago, remember Governor Abbott, he proposed this bill and the Texas legislature passed it that allowed local law enforcement in Texas to enforce illegal immigration laws.”

The bill is now in court because some school of thought believes enforcing illegal immigration laws is the exclusive jurisdiction of the federal government.

Barkdoll said, “So we don’t know where that will go. The same would be true when it comes to illegal immigration. However, there is an exception when it deals with the health, safety and welfare of your citizenry. I think Governor Abbott legitimately is citing that clause. The governor of course has the authority to deploy National Guard troops in his state when it deals with things related to health, safety and welfare. That Eagle Pass crossing has just been overwhelmed for months now with illegal crossings. The feds aren’t keeping up with it.”

Videos have shown thousands of people rushing over Eagle Pass.

Barkdoll continued, “So we’ll see how this works. I mean the National Guard stepping in, I suspect privately, those border patrol agents are welcoming this sort of backup and additional force to help them keep these immigrants at bay. But whether a court steps in today or over the weekend, and pulls the National Guard out of there is the open question.”

Michele Jansen of NewsTalk 103.7FM pointed out, “It’s interesting that the mayor of Eagle Pass, he allowed for the Department of Public Safety to close and take over that park – the council didn’t agree to it – to arrest people coming to the park. They declared it private property. Well then the mob found out about it and they got online with their grievances and they didn’t like it. So he rescinded it. Now he’s complaining about this decision that the National Guard and Governor Abbott made. I find his quote very ironic, ‘this is not a decision we agreed to. This is not something that we wanted. This is not something that we asked for as a city.’ Fill in the word country because that’s what you could say to the Joe Biden administration about his horrific border policies that have led us to all of these situations.”

Barkdoll suggested, “Look at the video from down there, just these massive tent cities that are popping up in these towns. Thousands and thousands of people living in tents. These are these immigrants. A lot of them are under bridges and highway overpasses, and the towns, the county governments, the state no one really knows what to do with all of these people. Eagle Pass in particular, that seems to be the one that just keeps getting worse, for whatever reason. I don’t know if that’s an easier one to get to as you’re moving in through Mexico or why that one in particular seems to be the hot spot. But keep an eye on when a court gets involved? If a court does not get involved or if a court says it is perfectly okay under the governor’s health, safety and welfare authority to deploy National Guard troops, this is fair game, might you see this replicated in other border areas, in Arizona, in California? Maybe in other states that aren’t right on the border that are combating this same issue right now.”

Ryan said, “Joe Biden’s southern border and don’t be fooled by that fool behind the microphone, propping up the Biden administration, pointing fingers at the Republicans. This thing was not perfect, but it was not to the degree that it is happening right now on Joe Biden’s watch. It was Joe Biden who sold out your steel that was bought and paid for, pennies on the dollar, that was erecting a fence and the wall. This is Joe Biden’s southern border and anybody who voted for him, this is on you. Make no mistake here.”
