56 y/o inmate in Franklin County jail allegedly found with meth in walking cane

24 January 2023- An inmate in Franklin County jail is looking at more charges after police allegedly test a substance found inside the man’s cane. David Eugene Lephew, originally from Blue Ridge Summit, is charged with felony possession of a contraband controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance. Lephew is behind bars on $50,000 bail.

On January 21st, Pennsylvania State Police were called to the Franklin County Prison for reports of found contraband. Upon arrival, police allegedly talked with staff at the jail to learn an inmate by the name of David Lephew was allegedly acting suspiciously with regards to his cane. A search of Lephew’s person was conducted and police allegedly found an amber colored hardened substance in the handle of the cane in question. A NIC test was performed on the substance, which allegedly came back positive for methamphetamine.

Lephew is still incarcerated at the Franklin County Jail. His preliminary hearing is set for January 31st.
