50mph gusts expected overnight as Wind Advisory sweeps across Central PA

15 February 2024- The entirety of Central Pennsylvania is set to experience a bevy of high winds running the rest of the evening into tomorrow morning. The National Weather Service out of State College, PA has announced a Wind Advisory will be in place until 10am on Friday.

NWS advises that winds coming from the west will be running at 20-30mph throughout the night with gusts of up to 50mph expected. These winds will continue from the late afternoon on Thursday through Friday morning, again ending around 10am.

The gusts, the NWS says, will be strongest this afternoon as a cold front moves through and again later this evening and overnight behind the front. The highest gusts will be on the ridges and downwind of gaps in the mountains.

Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects, tree limbs could be blown down, and a few power outages may result from the downed lines.

Extra caution should be had by drivers, especially if you are operating a “high profile” vehicle, like an 18 wheeler truck or construction vehicle. Additionally, if you have outdoor furniture or objects make sure they are secured overnight.
